Well done councillor Nobling, thankyou.

Now that the "nail residents into their houses" method has been discredited, other arrangements will need to be made.

Contractors and visiting council officers will be obliged, by insurance and health & safety rules, to wear hardhats. But, are hardhats available in childrens' sizes, or with velcro fastenings for the elderly with arthritic hands ?

I hope someone in the council is giving this subject the more serious attention that it deserves, and there will be answers to the questions you've put to them. Thanks again.

I have been given assurances this week that the matter of boarding up houses that were not for demolition has been taken very seriously by Calderdale Officers and they regret the inconvenience to the said householder who has been personally written to and is to get a personal visit so that an assessment can be made re the damage caused. I have also asked officers to keep me informed of any meetings with residents before demolition takes place, also asking them to make sure that appropriate protection is afforded to persons and property that will be affected when work commences and I have also asked what considerations will be given to the elderly and possibly infirm people who may be confined in their properties, unable to get out and as to wether any consideration has been made to offer these people dwellings away from the demolition area for as long as it takes for the work to be completed. If and when I get satisfactory answers to these questions I will pass these back to the residents who I have already had discussions with. Rest assured, Councillors do take their role very seriously and will try wherever posssible to let the Authority Officers know of their concerns over such matters.

The incident last week, with a house belonging to an owner occupier, one scheduled for improvement, not demolition being boarded up whilst the owner was out shopping, causing expensive damage to the double glazing, raises questions about council policies and procedures, and whether things are organised as they need to be.

Why do councils get things wrong ? Often because they apply policies to situations that were never thought of when the policy was made.

The standing council policy of not rehousing any owner occupiers, even the elderly and disabled, even during the worst of the planned work, with adjoining houses being demolished, gas. water and electric disrupted, roofs and roof timbers removed, excavations done and, predictably, difficult access, is impractical.

That policy needs thinking through and changing. But, who will negotiate this with the council? Is there presently a local councillor willing to represent the people in Harleybank ?

Well done residents, the gardening looks so good, and the website professional. Lets hope the council improvements reach the same standard.

The problem of noise transmission within these Victorian terraces should be high on the improvement agenda, as it is something which greatly concerns most people that live here. Soundproofing using modern materials and techniques is now reasonably economical and quick. Many firms specialise in it.

Soundproofing combines well with energy efficiency measures, is best and most economically done as a group repair, will definitely improve quality of life in Harleybank, should not be ignored or overlooked, and needs to be included within this improvement project.

From meetings we have had with the Council they said they will not re-house people. This has come up a few times from other People in the Harley Bank Area. Let H.B.C.A know if you want help in talking to the council.

Well done with the website, hope we will get information on here as it becomes available.

We are told Harleybank will become a building site for three years with demolition of whole and partial rows, are any arrangements being made for temporarily housing people during the worst of this ?
